Originally from New Orleans, I moved to Bozeman in 2012 due to a wonderful summer program that changed the trajectory of my life. I quickly fell in love with the area and completed my counseling degree at Montana State University in the summer of 2020.

How do we hold onto hope in the face of terrible pains and disappointments? How do we make it through the dark night of the soul? What do we do when we have tried all that we know? I believe, similar to my colleagues, that it is through relationships that we are able to heal, or find wisdom, or receive encouragement to hold on. We see and hear the world differently depending on our relationships with others. As a counselor, I aim to express genuine care, empathy, grace, and gentleness. I aim to live out Biblical scriptures that highlight the importance of carrying one another’s burdens, weeping with those who weep, and rejoicing in times of celebration. I love to work with people and desire to give honor and grace to the unique pains and triumphs that people experience.

I am recently married and love spending time with my wife & best friend Kaylene. I lovingly call myself a “nerd” as I have always been a fan of fantasy (novels, board games, movies). It is my privilege to walk alongside people who are going through deep pain and brokenness, and to help them in their pursuit of healing and wholeness—body, mind, and spirit. I believe this can best be done within the context of a supportive and empathic relationship where one feels heard and deeply valued. I am particularly passionate about helping clients find the freedom to live and love with openness, authenticity, and boldness, with the greater goal of obtaining intimacy in relationships and deeper peace.

A particular area of interest of mine is grief and loss, which can be experienced in a number of ways—a death, broken relationship, change in identity, declining health, or facing past wounds. Grieving is a process that is painful and messy, but when walked through with intentionality and openness, and with someone to help guide the process, it can be a deeply healing experience. Other areas of interest include anxiety, postpartum depression and anxiety, relationship concerns, trauma and abuse, women’s issues, questions of identity, and spiritual growth. I am also certified in Prepare/Enrich, which is a leading relationship inventory and skill-building program used for both premarital and marital counseling. Overall, I draw from a variety of therapeutic modalities and techniques to help clients achieve their goals. I also value the important role faith plays throughout this journey of healing.

There are points in our life where burdens become too heavy, the way forward too dim, and we lose sight of who we are. I believe suffering is not meant to be endured alone. As a counselor, my hope is to provide a space where there is both warmth and freedom – freedom to show up as you are and walk into light, which is a metaphor that can mean something different to each person. This work often requires courage and time. I will compassionately and respectfully walk with you, as we navigate the path towards healing and wholeness together.

My approach to counseling is rooted in my belief that there is no human being who is too far away from experiencing grace, love and the beauty of redemption.

I received a bachelors degree in Writing, along with a masters in Counseling at Montana State University. My background in writing has greatly influenced my work as a counselor, as I believe creative processes like writing can be used as a powerful tool to process our own stories and emotions.

I’ve lived in Gallatin Valley for almost a decade and spend much of my time hiking and sitting on river banks, reading and writing poetry as I watch my husband, Avery, fish with our chocolate lab, Arlo.

Your story is full of moments that have surprised you, hurt you, challenged you, and changed you. It involves moments of joy and happiness, but also times of great sadness, and pain. We all experience life with its unexpected twists and turns. Too often people let us down, and in the process we let ourselves down too. I am a firm believer that interpreting and redefining these moments of influence in your life--particularly of life’s disappointments and pain--can be a powerful source of freedom and healing.

As relational beings, we each have a desire to be seen and to be understood. I believe this can be achieved through the sharing of story—your story, in a trusted environment free of judgment and shame. I know it requires courage to be seen and to acknowledge where you have been hurt. I do not take this ask lightly, but rather find it to be a privilege to be with you in your pain. I believe it is in that very space where healing happens. As we engage in this process together, I believe you will see there is freedom to be found in your story. It is not my role to tell you what that will look like, but rather to support you as you find it for yourself.

I have had the opportunity to work as a clinical counselor in the Bozeman area for over 20 years. During this time I have greatly enjoyed the privilege of hearing the stories of people I meet, and walking closely with them through struggles and growth. I have found that gaining a deeper understanding of past relationships and experiences allows people to have greater understanding and compassion for themselves as they face current challenges. It is through the building of a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship that these challenges can be explored, and the growth process is able to unfold.
I have a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Montana State University. Additionally, I have extensive training and experience in attachment-based theory and treatment, including Attachment-Focused Family Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples. I have also used Dialectical Behavior Therapy for working with adolescents and people with personality disorders. Working with adolescents and parents has been a long-standing passion of mine, including foster and adoptive children and families, grandparents raising grandchildren, and children who struggle with attention deficit. Another area of interest for me is working with young adults as they are making decisions that will shape their future careers and relationships. This work led to an interest in therapy for married couples as they attempt to live and love each other well in the face of the significant challenges that inevitably occur during a lifetime of shared experience.
I have been living in this beautiful valley for over 20 years, and enjoying the opportunities for outdoor recreation, including hiking, camping, downhill skiing, and skate skiing. I am a Bozeman native and have been working in the counseling field since 2009.
I completed my undergraduate work with honors at George Fox University, in Portland Oregon, and continued on to receive a Masters Degree in Marriage and Family therapy. There, I had the privilege of receiving a deeply spiritual perspective of the human condition as it relates to mental health. This rich education allowed me to integrate my desire to counsel with the kingdom calling God has given me: To walk alongside those who need healing, encouragement, and guidance.

I've had the privilege of working with Doug Samsel. His wisdom and experience has had a profound impact on my efforts.

Counseling work is journey. My approach starts with helping people discover and feel their worth. As trust forms, I help people identify their patterns of dysfunction and relational brokenness. These patterns usually point to wounds in a person’s original relationships (parents and siblings) that trigger and drive behaviors, needs, and defenses in current relationships. As original wounds are uncovered, false beliefs about life are exposed. Behavioral reactions can be understood, and a shift of grace comes with forgiveness.

I am especially passionate about helping couples through the trials of building real marriages, and parents/teen relationship development.

In my leisure time I enjoy my family time with my husband John, and my two daughters, Laney and Celia who keep me in the beauty and the throes of motherhood on a daily basis! I have been working in the field of counseling for over 10 years, having graduated from Denver Seminary in 2012. I began working in private practice in the Denver area seeing individuals, couples and facilitating groups. My passion is to walk alongside people as they take up courage to heal and grow.

I am a Montana native from Billings, but had the joy of experiencing life in other places after graduating high school. While studying business at Baylor University, I tutored, mentored, led, and counseled peers and those younger than me. I taught English in Bangkok Thailand in my 20's, then accepted a position as program manager for a group home of emotionally disturbed adolescent boys, which was the catalyst to me moving to Colorado to study counseling. I now have a wife and three kids under the age of 8 that are a joy to live life with.

I grew up in St. Louis, MO and have been working in the counseling community for more than 30 years. My family and I moved to Bozeman 2014 to start Great Oaks. Through the years walking with people through difficult and disconcerting seasons has been a unique privilege. I also really enjoy training and working with the other counselors. In addition, I do some public speaking, addressing issues of the heart and intimate relationships.

A close friend of mine once coined the phrase "we were made to be more," and it had a deep impact on me. It’s shaped the way I counsel and the way I live. I’ve felt it resonate and disrupt my life and the lives of people I talk with each day; those who have been abused, those who are struggling in their marriages, those who are facing growing confusion in being a parent, either as a couple or as a single person, or even individuals whose lives are just not what they had hoped for. I work compassionately with deep brokenness while encouraging people to consider the profoundness of grace and gentleness. I’ve always believed damage happens in the context of relationship and so does healing. Several years ago, I wanted to understand more about the way trauma can impact how people view themselves and their world. In pursuing this, I sought training in EMDR. The research, my training and experience confirm that this can be a powerful tool in the process of change. I see it as a uniquely helpful and experiential way for some people to process events that have shaped them and kept them from knowing a peace that comes from understanding their designed worth. Most recently I've done a 6 month intensive with Deb Dana in Polyvagal Theory. This has helped me have a much deeper understanding our nervous system, how that plays out in everyday life, as well as the way trauma affects our bodies & brains. It also can have a restorative impact on communication and relationships, moving toward greater health and intimacy.

I believe that we are all made to be known but trauma and suffering often cause us to hide our true selves from others. My intention is to create a safe place to explore buried emotions and hidden thoughts where honesty and vulnerability open the door to growth and change. With a gentle yet direct approach, I specialize in treating anxiety and depression, relationship issues, life transitions, burnout, ministry struggles, sexuality issues and trauma.

I received my Master of Arts in Counseling from Reformed Theological Seminary in 2010 and am passionate about helping others find more freedom and connection in their lives, in large part because of how I’ve been helped through safe relationships. With over 25 years of church and para-church ministry experience, I enjoy opportunities to work with men and women in Christian ministry. Outside of the counseling room, I enjoy speaking on various relationship topics. I come alive in nature and living in Bozeman feels like one of the best gifts I’ve been given. My deepest joy is exploring the outdoors with my husband and our three children. I love connecting with friends, hiking, reading and quilting in bold colors.

I have been working in the field of mental and integrative health for over 20 years. I have held licenses as a Counselor in 2 states, Certified Spiritual Director and Registered Yoga Teacher. I have worked in a variety of settings during my career with a wide range of individuals, couples, families, groups and corporations. I have also led and taught numerous classes and workshops throughout my career all over the U.S. My vocational experience includes work in higher education, community mental health centers, residential addiction treatment centers, a therapeutic boarding school for at-risk youth, nonprofit ministries, healthcare and hospice, nursing homes, assisted living centers and in my own private practice. For several years, I had my own integrative wellness business, Hiatus to Healing LLC where I did speaking engagements about emotional and spiritual wellness. I now own and run my own private practice, Treasured Counseling and Consulting, PLLC that serves clients in both Montana and Colorado.

I hold a M.A. in Counseling from Denver Theological Seminary, a M.A. in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary and a Certification in Spiritual Direction and Soul Care from Denver Seminary. I obtained my RYT 200, and was registered with Yoga Alliance. I am also Certified as an Equine Assisted Learning.

When I am not working, you can find me delving into something creative whether it be with design, art or food. I love traveling and reading a compelling book. And of course, being in Montana, playing outdoors in nature with friends and family along with my beloved Cardigan Welsh Corgi Jasper are the best kind of days!
